Hi Gill
I used SAGA for my holiday insurance (although you have to be over 50 to qualify) and they were very good- not realy any more expensive than other companies and they included RA . I only had europe though but they probably do world wide

I got my travel insurance from Staysure www.staysure.co.uk Helpline Number 0844 277 8545 I found them to be good. When I first took it the policy out I was only taking two drugs for RA and it didn't affect my premium at all. When I had meds increased I phoned them and my premium did go up. Bit annoyed though, not about it go up I expected that, but I had to pay the extra for all of the years premium, even though I only had a few months left on the present insurance with them. I did try lots of different insurers and found them to be the most competitive. I was asked if I had any surgery, been hospitalised by RA or I was waiting for surgery. The answer to all the questions were No. I think I have read that you have had a knee replacement, if I am right that may make yours more expensive. Paula

Hi Paula, yes I have had both knees replaced and also have two pins in the top of my spine, so I'm sure it will cost me. Thanks for the advice, I have never heard of staysure but it's worth a try. Will keep you posted. Hope to ring around tonight when I leave work.
Thanks Gill x

I tend to go via Travel Supermarket and get comparisons. You can do an advanced search to include medical conditions. Where're you going? Angie Be yourself - everyone else is taken. XX

Hi Gill Once you have had surgery for RA the premiums do seem to rise steeply. We usually use Direct Travel ; their premiums are usually very competitive. When you phone the medical helpline they are very careful to ensure that you only pay what is necessary and will ask for the dates of surgery and medication details. You can choose what level of insurance you actually require depending on the places you are visiting and the type of holiday. Good luck, hope you find something suitable (and not too expensive!). Thanks everyone, I rang a few places and I have gone with the AA in the end, they seen very good, and a lot cheaper than most, so worth a try for anyone who needs this type of insurance.
I am going to Australia via Bangkok on the way there and Singapore on the way back. I'm a bit scared to tell the truth, but always wanted to go to Australia so I will have to risk it. Now the insurance is sorted the next thing on the list is do I have to have any injections to visit Bangkok or Singapore? I know you don't have to have them for Australia.
I go in April, so will soon come around.

Keep your hands washed some loos are not western holes in floors most are ok if you in tourest areas keep some hand gel and wipes and tussuies with you . its very hot .Drink bottled water only clean teeth with bottled water . they do give you rags in iced water to cool your self down in the tourest areas most is air con . the hotels are lovely there .More like 5 star i did see midges or mosies but we were warned . cover up from sun use strong sun cream don,t show bottoms of feet to the budda i did and got well told off . you will have to take shoes off in temples and floor is very hot sometimes . i had good soft shoes on sandles but still got blisters though sweating and heat so keep plasters and socks with you . i had to wear socks as feet were sore on first half of first outing .Which were the best thing i took with me . when feet used to it was fine . you need a sun hat . Watch naughty tuk tuk drivers . dont drink iced beers from bars . The chocolate eating housewife ...The washer woman .....naughty lady

I've just found out that we have some sort of holiday insurance with our current account at Alliance and Leicester, we thought that it had been cancelled when we changed our bank account. I've phoned and asked what I would have to pay extra for my RA and was given a quote of around £30 to cover any problems I may have with RA when I am away.
Still not sure if to pay the upgrade or not, will make my mind up when our current insurance expires. The bank one is only for periods away of under 31 days but the new one which I took out when I spent about 6 weeks with Julie last year covers me for alot longer. Don't know if I may go away for periods longer that 31 days now due to having to have regular bloods done since having MTX added. Oh the joys of RA!!!!!

hi gill
what a brilliant holiday coming up!!! i've been twic to Aus now 6 years ago and last time 2 years ago it is well worth the trip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
check with your practice nurse regarding injections for singapore/bangkok--if you are just changing planes i'm pretty sure you don't need any vaccinations --unless directions from the health board have changed in 2 years.
if you do need them you will need them at least a month before for them to 'kick' in
where abouts in Aus are you going??
make sure you get up and walk about on the flight i found it really helped ease the stiffness of the long flight.
take care have a wonderful time
love
caz xx
